Aurora Village: Sweden’s Largest Worker Accommodation

Written by Adapteo | Jun 12, 2026 8:49:37 AM

In Luleå, Adapteo and Strawberry Living are together creating Sweden’s largest worker accommodation project – Aurora Village. The village will provide housing for 2,000 people working on SSAB’s transition to fossil-free steel production. In terms of number of rooms, its size is comparable to the largest hotels in the Nordic region.

Major infrastructure projects and industrial operations depend on having good housing available for their employees. Without that, the workforce simply won’t come. Together with Strawberry Living, we are meeting SSAB’s needs in Luleå – and at the same time creating the starting point for a joint offer in Sweden, says Ola Skogö, Managing Director of Adapteo Sweden.

The project has been launched in response to Norrbotten’s growing need for worker accommodation in connection with large-scale industrial developments. In the coming years, thousands of new jobs are expected to be created in the region, increasing the pressure on the housing market.

– The entire ambition of the Strawberry group is to contribute to solutions to society’s challenges. This is a strong example of how we are not only creating housing, but also the conditions for regions to grow and become stronger, says Strawberry owner Petter Stordalen.

Aurora Village plays a key role in enabling new industrial establishments, while at the same time offering vibrant and safe environments where people can thrive. The village includes a restaurant, gym, mini market, social areas, football and boules pitches, and transport to and from the workplace. The interiors have been developed together with Tengbom, one of Sweden’s leading interior design firms, with a strong focus on wellbeing through carefully considered colours and material choices.

– Adapteo and Strawberry share high ambitions for what worker accommodation can and should be. With this partnership, we are taking the lead in driving the sector forward. Aurora Village is the starting point for a unique joint offer, says Ola Skogö, Managing Director of Adapteo Sweden.

The flexible buildings are constructed by Adapteo, while Strawberry Living is responsible for the operation and services of the village. The first 500 rooms are expected to be completed in spring 2026, with further phases to follow.
