Adapteo has partnered up with the Mecklenburg-Vorpormmern School in German Neukloster, providing them with an adaptable and accessible school building, during renovation of the ordinary school building, dating back to 1862.

At Adapteo we firmly believe that a brighter, better and more suitable environment is key to better learning and personal development and are proud of this solution to the Mecklenburg-Vorpormmern School. Fortyfive blind and visually impaired students in eight classes can be taught in the new adaptable building, built and fully equipped by Adapteo. Esthetically, the contemporary building makes a striking contrast to the school’s older buildings, dating back to 1862.

Accessible facilities for assistance

The temporary modular building needed to have accessible facilities and wayfinding aids for visually impaired pupils with multiple disabilities. Features include accessible toilet facilities with sufficient space for support workers and aids as well as wide corridors and doorways.

— The ground-level building was crucial for an undisturbed school-routine within the renovation of our old school. The children have found their way around the new Adapteo school and seems comfortable and happy, says Andreas Käkenmeister, coordinator of the school section of the district of Northwest Mecklenburg where Neukloster is situated.

A modular building with a comprehensive safety concept

The modular building covers 1,388 square metres and was built to all be at ground level. Adapteo became the main contractor for the essential engineering and foundation work. The school includes a safety concept with a locking mechanism, wireless smoke alarms, safety lighting, a lightning protection system and control systems. Adapteo also developed a technology concept with telephone lines, structured computer cabling, special lighting designs and surge protection. Washing machines, dryers and several dishwashers were installed in utility rooms, and a functional kitchenette was integrated into each classroom.
